Yes, & Allan Moffat was there too (they sell GT Radials).
The food was a bit strange for my basic tastes but Vince was very funny. I thought the MEA next door neighbours might have objected to some (well, most) of his jokes, but I don't think they understood them :p .

Thanks Scott.:) I've got a very old, very large grease gun which seems to work as long as you keep the nozzle dead-set in line with the nipple, otherwise it just squirts grease all over the place. Replacement nozzle perhaps?
I'll keep those grease nipples polished from now on... promise.:D

they sometimes do this if the end of the nozzle comes loose......
otherwise.....mine does exactly the same......:(

Try a piece of cloth over the grease nipple then push the nozzle over that. It can help seal a lot better & the grease is able to pass through the cloth.

now theres a trick ive never seen or heard of before......
why couldnt tell me this a few years ago....?
like when i met lurch......i get more grease around the nipples than in them....:D:D:D

Well Repco rang me this afternoon to say the rear universal had come in so I went and got it. It's the absolute twin of the uni I took out of the front propshaft except for a long shank grease nipple. I was going to swap the nipple with the old one but the threads didn't seem to like it so I stuck with the long one (it gets in the way of a socket wrench for one bolt). Inserted the spider, G-clamped the cups in to the yoke (after smearing with anti-seize), inserted the circlips (only lost one!), did the same to the propshaft end, refited the grease nipple and pumped in blue grease until it oozes from the cups. It's a bit stiff but looking good.
I reused the existing bolts to refit the shaft, took the Disco for a run and the clunks are gone! :) No squeaks and squawks either but the jury is still out on that issue. At least I have four wheel drive again. :D
The uni joint was Repco part number K5-L4R price $37.

Did you seperate the drive shaft? If so then you need to align the uni joints, sorry to state the obvious, but you never know:)

The front shaft actually has the universals out of phase by 2(?) splines.

Thanks for that hint. With my level of mechanical knowledge very little is 'obvious' to me. Fortunately I did not seperate the shaft so that's not a problem. :)

since your mechanical knowledge is a bit down.... some pointers on unis..

1. DONT grease em untill the grease comes out,, when that happens youve blown the seals and leaving yourself prone to ingress.. Give them one shot every second week/once a month or so, just enough to get the seals to "bulge" if you notice one seal is not moving give its opposite partner a tap on the yoke with a rubber mallet and go once more with the grease gun.

2. Care of the grease gun. clean the grease out of the nozzle and make sure the the litte rubber seal in the base of the nozzle is there. the nozzle itself is removable from the tube/pipe and can usually be seperated into 2 pieces.. Dont try to undo it unless you need to replace the rubber insert but tighten it up by hand.. the tightness effects the clamping effort of the nozzle.. Always store the grease gun with the nozzle down if possable otherwise the oil will seperate out of the grease and wind up on the floor of your rover/workshop.

I replace unis at the 50k km interval, but when looked after they are good for a lot further than that.
