I know that the R380 manual gearbox has an internal pump that could be used to move oil around a cooler but in a manual gearbox that doesn't have a pump how does the oil get moved from the gearbox and through a cooler and back to the box?Quote:

you have 2 options 1, sometimes the gears line up with the drain and fill plugs,,what you do is tap into these with t pieces and use the motion of the gears to flow the oil out of the box into the cooler... then back into the fill plug..
or you can bore and tap the side of the case in the appropriate places and take advantage of the same effect..
then you jsut fill the gearbox up enough to fill the cooler and have it flowable..
Naturally you cant front mount the cooler as you have no real pressure available, just flow rate.

I have been quoted $1200 for an auto with 150k's plus shifter/pedal box etc.. for $600. They also offered me $600 back on the R380. I figure if I get another 100 000 out of the motor I'm doing well. I very much like the HS 2.8 but still having trouble with how much to spend on the car. I plan to keep it for at least five years and the car never went offroad till I got it, so i think its worth it.
At least i'm not pouring my money into a crappy VK commodore like I did in the past :(

Hi Stu,
I run a 98 TDi auto and often tow the van to all sorts of places. We had an after market cooler fitted by Ricks 4x4 on the Gold Coast some time ago. Also fitted a 'T' piece so we could add a VDO temp guage to keep track on things.
With nearly 2t (plus) behind we have never had any problems. Recommend the fitment.
