Hey guys,
Can anyone tell me if PAS was optional or not available on early Rangies, in particular 1972 model?
Cheers

I was working at Leyland Truck & Bus in Brisbane & we were the LR/RR state distributors and Brisbane retail outlet. RR's were in short supply. Our dealers and reps were taking orders with no idea when they could be filled. Range Rovers ( and LR's) were allocated by Sydney and we sold what we got when we got it. Some times cars would arrive with PS, and sometimes with cloth seat facings. Dealer orders? Well, the squeaky wheel got the oil. Retail orders? The Retail Sales Manager would start 'phoning the customers asking if they still wanted a RR. " No, there isn't a white one with PS, you can have green one without." What got up the noses of quite a few customers was the fact that you could go to a dealer in Sydney or Melbourne who got the lion's share of allocations, and buy one off the floor. One of the many reasons Leyland and the rest of the British motor industry ceased to exist.

Yeah, Brian is so right, it was a case of "Who you knew" as they quite often went straight from Production/Assy to the dealer principle then on to the customer over dinner![]()

I suppose theoretically PS was an option, in that factory documentation listed it as such, but in Oz we sold what we were sent in those times, and the customer took what we had. They didn't have any option. If there was a car with PS then someone got it, whether they wanted it or not. The only way a customer could spec. up and order a RR to their requirements was to order one for delivery in the UK.Originally Posted by PLR

Parking is a bit of a problem, but you get used to it.
While moving, there is little difference.
My 1st rangie, which gave many years of great service, did not have power steering, and I couldn't understand why anyone would want power steering.Originally Posted by loanrangie
I think they had more turns lock to lock, which helped.
