Help on A/C in a series I Disco

I know that the gas charge is fine because I reclaimed it and recharged it, I wasn't sure so that has to fix it.

The icing up of the evaporator was caused by the lack of air flow so it was able it drop the suction pressure low enough (but not enought to cut out on the LP switch) to cause the ice up.

I dont know of the evaporator is dirty coz I cant get to the bloody thing to see it, but I have no doubt that it needs a clean if I could pull it off.

When the air flow stops it is quite distinct, like switching it down to a lower speed but it doesn't change noise, so the fan is still going at the same speed but something is blocking it? The piece of paper sounds like the sort of thing that could be it but I cant see anything like that to block it. Is it possible that a flap drops down when on vent or heat to stop the air coming out backwards through the evap coil?? and this is happening whhile on cool?

The hardest part about this is that it is so bloody hard to get to to check. I'm begining to think that the easiest theng to do it just rip it apart. The windscreen is cracked so I might pull it out so that I have better access to every thing

It does sound like one of the dampers/flaps is closing down,...... bloody rum doo.

You can blow the evap out with a compressed air line - but if it is dirty it will cause a bit of a mess. Just remove one of the dash output grilles and blow it through

Have you disconnected the drain hoses and cleared them out, again you could blow a bit of compressed air up those fittings as well

It does sound like a flap closing off, although I've had the plastic bag in the RA (return air) in a Patrol as well as multiple freezer and cool rooms.

I try to avoid car AC like the plague, but one of the local garages call me in when they can't sus a system. Worked on my first Rangie Classic the other week. To access the TXV the scuttle has to be removed and a little access panel removed to get down through the firewall.

Aaaahhhh, oh for the good olde days, when the TEV was hanging just outside of the firewall in the engine bay. Well insulated, I hasten to add.

That was probably around the same time that if you wanted heating in a Holden, you screwed a tiny purpose built rad. under the flap air intake. It was modern, as one had a tap on the block to shut off the coolant. Coolant! Water morelike, none of that new fangled sheeite.:D:D

The funniest thing out of all of this is just how many frigies own landrovers. I would tell my missus that it shows we have very refinded tastes but I dont think she would agree :D :D

Although she does agree that she has never been in a more capable 4X4

I will strip it down over christmas and fix it once and for all, then since this has generated quite some interest I will have a go at taking some photos and posting it when I get it finished.

If yáll never hear from me again it will be because I have torched it in the back yard and my darling lady will have had me committed to a padded cell (she calls the Disco my mistress because of the time and money I spend on it)

You couldn't do that here now as it's the Bushfire Season. (yep we even have a season when you light up bushfires :D)

I thought you were going to say you'd tangled yourself up inside the dash & couldn't escape it's tendrils & cables, so Mrs blitz told the wreckers to take the lot away & crush it.:D

kathy my lady already thinks I spend to much time on it if I got tangles up in it I think she would interpret as a loving embrase.

Way to funny is that to just wont run for her, stops running or wont turn over, she things it's posessed I crack up and she gets the s^&*ts with me and the car
