    ECU Replacement Options?

    Hello All,

    Have a '03 Defender TD5 90 Manual.

Am Intrested in some ECU replacement options.
What is on the market and for what price? Very new to upgrades for the rover.

The only option I have found so far is a replacement ecu option at Ricks 4x4 on the Coast.
Has anyone any feedback on this unit versus flash tuning options etc?

    appreciate the assistance.

    Michael

Cost I'm not certain as it was done when he owned the vehicle. but in mine it was a swap ecu. Heard $800 mentioned somewhere. As for power I have the wild with upgraded intercooler and should be putting out somewhere round 440nm of torque and 150 odd horses (I dodn't know the exact figures). It's enough to get a 4 wheel drift going with 287,75R16 muds on a dry road from stationary turning up hill. Scared the friend driving as he got the 130 smoking the wheels and sliding as traffic approached. With the auto in mine it is just fast on take off. when towing it didn't notice a 1 ton trailer with LC300 camper van on top. Also didn't react when the camper's pop top roof opened at 110kmh on the freeway.

    Bruce Davis ECU upgrade

Got mine done today, its great.

I had the Bruce Davis treatment through M.R. Automotive in Redcliffe, just north of Brisvegas. I rang up and ordered it, takes 4-5 days for them to send an ECU that they have already to Bruce Davis to get remapped (i think thats what you call it) and i drive in when it gets back and they swap it over and hey presto i drove out after around 30 mins with an extra 30% Kw and same in Nm of torque.

I found straight away the engine sounds much the same just getting quicker off the lights and getting up to cruise a lot easier. Up the hills a lot easier and smoother in cruise control. I am towing a trailer down to Newcastle from Brisbane with the wife and 2 kids with load on wed night so will have a bit more of an idea on some bigger hills then. So far i am pretty happy with the 900 odd fun tickets it cost me.

I dealt with Warren at M.R. Automotive. They went the extra mile in helping me out. Cant speak highly enough of their service, as i mentioned in a previous post. They opened up early just so they could fit it for my drive down to Newcastle.

    Good to hear Tonto.
Mine was the test platform for the bruce davis mods. He bought it for his wife and played with the ECU and other bits till he had what he now sells.

    G’day Michael

I have just had the ECU in my 2003 D90 upgraded not long ago.

I had mine upgraded by Tombraider and I am very happy with it. I posted a thread a while ago about how much improvement there was from the upgrade. If you do a search in this forum you should be able to find it.

Basically the upgrade has made a very noticeable increase in the performance and the everyday drivability of my 90. It’s much more responsive and fuel economy hasn’t seemed to have increased very much at all.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers
    MOS

just had the tombradier ECU treatment

a few words spring to mind... holy snapping duck sh%t!

i just drove my 90 back from parramatta and oh my god! now i know what all the fuss is about...
and its still easily driven like it was b4, nice and sensitave when you want it and power to burn when
    overtaking!

as value for money goes! the TRT ecu upgrade should be factory..

    cheers phil.
