Ladies and Gentlemen
I have to report the timing belt and associated paraphenalia has been replaced, at Ricks 4wd at nerang.
What a shock it was to drive the thing away from the workshop later in the afternoon.I thought I had a new engine
Through my mind flashed the very first post i ever put in,aptly titled my Disco is a Slug.
I now know what a properly timed 300TDI is supposed to go like. To use the British term goes like the clappers. To think I put up with if for three years in go slow mode.
After all my worrying thinking the motor was possessed, was on its last legs, was a LR lemon, it is now normal.
I don't know if this is the right forum to mention it, but I will anyway. Rick and his team at Nerang are fantastic. They found things wrong in the motor that I wouldn't have even noticed and fixed it. By weaving their Landrover expertise and magic brought the disco back up to a properly functioning vehicle. The engine is responsive, no lag on the turbo, cruises nicely on the highway at lower revs and with minimal pedal, goes up hills and not sliding backwards as before. No more deceleration smoke when cold.
The timing belt had been replaced by a dealer at 65k, one of those recall ones. They totally stuffed up the timing, no wonder the bloke who had it before me sold it. I bought it with 70k on the clock.
Lucky I didn't try to do it myself, some genius at the dealers had locktighted the bottom pulley in.
For the money it cost me, it was worth every cent. I wouldn't hesitate to tell anyone to go to them if they have any motor problems. Have a holiday on the Gold Coast at the same time. They get my vote.
