    Phantom CDL

    Greetings,

I borrowed a friends trailer on the weekend and while I was driving home after using the trailer the CDL light came on. Now this was a bit spooky as I had just last week booked my 01 TD5 manual 5 seater in to have the CDL linkages and what not connected(yes it does have the thingy sticking out the top of the transfer case) to play in the sand better. So maybe The Toy was just letting me know that it was looking forward to have the linkages done. The plot thickened when I went to reverse down my driveway and found that my reversing lights were not working. I changed the fuse and it blew again. So here you have it CDL light going on with no CDL engagement apparatus and reversing lights fuse blowing. Hmmm, has any one else experienced this type of behavior or can think of an answer?

    Cheers

Interesting question, the last 2 years comming back to Brissy from Stanthorpe over Cunninghams Gap (on a down grade nearly same place) our diff lock light came on and chimming, just put it into difflock then out again and went off, no problems with reverse lights. The difflock thing has only ever happened with the van on and in that same area ??????????

Check your fuses and globes, certain trailors I have borrowed in the past I will not in the future due to the fact they are not compatibly wired to be towed by my D2. A cheap trailor borrowed from a mate resulted in a day of fault finding in the electrical department. The first thing that goes is the middle brake light globe then the reverse lights globes then the cruise control fuse, fog lights globes.

And I only towed the bloody thing a 5 km round trip.

You may want to check the trailer socket first, see if there is a loose connection at the back, or if the socket is damaged

I've had this problem a couple of times before.

When i've blown a tail/brake fuse ( can't remember which one ) the CDL light will come on when I put my foot on the brake

    just check for blown fuse

Yes that is what it is doing so put another fuse in and at least the brake lights now work(didnt realise they were'nt working til today), not game to try the reversing lights til I get home just in case the fuse blows again. Hopefully when Peter @ PCB Land Rovers looks at it tomorrow thats all that was wrong. Now to get rid of the SRS light?

Thanks to all for your ideas.

Check the voltage of all the lights on the trailor, the cause of mine was 1 brake light that was the wrong voltage for the car

I had the SRS light on my D1 come on - and it was caused by a break in the rotary coupler on the steering column.

Easy to test - but do disconnect the battery and wait a while before testing - you need to unplug the connectors for the coupler - and then test for resistance through it. Mine was open circuit (broken connection)

Well a happy ending, we all like those dont we . Peter at PCB LR, great bloke and does not charge the earth like the only two(or one as they are owned by the same people) LR dealers in Adelaide, noticed that the trailer socket cap was not fully closed. Upon inspection a pin sleeve had let go from the trailer plug and was stuck in the socket arcing on the socket cap thus blowing the fuse. Once the sleeve was removed, the cap closed properly and no more blown fuse. Did not take long but I still had his 110 loan car to play with for the day.

The CDL light does not come on now but hopefully will in future when it is supposed to.

If any one is interested Peter is looking to import a complete factory CDL linkage kit for D2's with the CDL but no linkages from the UK which he expects to be reasonably priced compared to second hand bits. Will keep the forum posted. Surgery is booked for the 19th December

    Cheers
