I'll second that, i had the same problem a while back, whenever it his ripples in the bitumen it did it, then after i got the track rod upgraded and the wheels aligned it made the problem worse so i rebuilt one swivel hub as the bearing had failed on top. Then i checked the panhard bushes, sure enough one was as loose as. Tweeked it tight and not a problem since. MattOriginally Posted by loanrangie

yes, that's OK, I thought you might have some info that I didn't. I thought the change was in early S2 production, but I have just checked, and the S2a parts book lists the change at axle number 24109240,25107785,24405088,25404199 depending on short or long wheelbase and RHD or LHD, which means the change was in early S2a production, I think in 1961.Originally Posted by DeeJay

Chev,
Do you mean it shakes from side to side, or is it through the steering?
Side to side could mean soft suspension bushes. I have just changed mine on the Disco and it is much better. If you can see any cracks in the rubber - change them. If they are over 80 000km old - change them. Do all of the bushes, it really is worth while and is fairly cheap to do if you do it yourself.

how loose are the swivel hubs after the adjustment.......?
you may need to have them a tad tighter.....we used to always do them a bit tighter than the book says......worked a treat......
but not too tight......you will damage them.....
but tightening of suspension is a must....it should almost be part of the service routine.........
About 4-4.5.
After all the good advice here, I am going to get under the front end and swing off everything this weekend. If nothing shows up, Ill revisit the hubs.
Thanks
Mate check back to some previous posts, I've done too many to mention, its the pre-loading on the king pins, I can't think of the lb (may be around 8lb +/-) as you get the feel of it after so many, there is a need for some pre-load on the king pins to stop what your going through.
Sorry can't be of more help,
Cheers
Panhard bushes and swivel pin bearing preload.![]()

I tend to lean towards this too.......some Discos and RR Classics have the preload in the steering box go way too sloppy......it's the set screw inside the big lock nut looking down on to the top of the box from above.Originally Posted by matbor
Jack both front tyres off ground and adjust up screw till theres only 1/4 -1/2" of freeplay when jiggling steering wheel side-to-side 4-6" in dead ahead position[...with engine/power assist OFF!].....NOT TOO TIGHT TO CAUSE ANY BINDING THOUGH!
