    New Fender purchase advice.

    Hello people,

I am very new to the LR Universe but am getting a new Fender 110 soon - I'm looking for some general info on a few topics such as...

    1) Land Rover Genuine Accessories - I plan on getting some original accessories as part of the deal when I buy the truck - these include the Defender wrap around plastic bullbar, front mud flaps, tow bar, raised air intake and side rails plus the floor mats throughout. Is there a consensus as to the desirability of the original parts versus aftermarket stuff?

    2) The standard Jack that comes with the truck - is it up to the job?

    3) Is there any standout fridge system that people recommend - basically to be functional for 2 people?

Thanks for any tips in advance.

    Welcome to the Fender club

1)Personally I would ditch the plastic bar and go with a steel bullbar. Much better for mounting lights/hitting roos. I have a steel TJM bullbar and we collected a roo at 100kph with the only damage being a bent numberplate.

2)The standard wind up jack is a PITA. Buy a good quality high-lift and never look back.

3)TJM make a bracket for dual batteries that fits nicely under the pass seat - that's where your battery is if they have not shown you already. Options for running it include ARB's smart solenoid, TJM's DBS, and a few others. Or you can use a marine-grade set up. Best to speak to an auto-sparkie about the best/cheapest way to go.

Your first port of call should be to get the ECU remapped and feel the power.

Yeah - go the steel bull bar.

Regarding the siderails, I prefer the rock-slider type rather than the genuine LR side steps. LR's reduce your ground clearance quite a bit and the way the attach is a bit flimsy. If you know how to weld there are a number of articles on the forum on how to make your own.

There's also quite a few articles on fridges and split charge systems. Look for Traxide (I think that's how you spell it) because one of the forum members manufactures these. I've got an old Engel that has to be 25 yrs old now and it still keeps on going. The newer stuff by Engel and Waeco look a lot better than mine but I can't justify the cost of replacing it when the old one still works so well.

You'll probably have to wait a while if you want to remap the ECU as it will be completely different than the TD5 version.

    Cheers
    David

    Agreed....

    -SLiders are nicer.
-Traxide makes a great DB controller....
-New Waeco 40 is nice, the Engel MT45F is pricier but some consider sturdier (up to your personal choice here)
-ECU remaps for TD5 and new Transit engine are available now....

I picked up my new Fender in Sep.

LR were more than happy to put on ARB accessories rather than LR genuine ones. The way the Dealer explained it to me is that they use ARB as an approved supplier of accessories so the will quite happily roll up the ARB stuff in the package. LR arranged all the fitting and getting the vehicle to ARB. They didnt even put any mark up on the ARB stuff.

Tombraider - how did you get to do the ECU upgrades for the new Defender when it hasn't been released yet? You got pre-release privleges?

Engine spec for new Defender is already known in the UK.

Programming gear for the vehicle is ready, programming is done....

I'm about to get the gear to do Freelander, RRS and D3....

GCAT (Rangie) and other vehicles are also coming soon....

Now if I can only get the piece I need for my hot air station I can finish the non-flashable ECUs I have here and then cover the whole lot!

Yeah it is, but get a Hydraulic unit like the red one in a Disco or get the higlift attachment adaptor and a highlift better yet, get an exhaust airbag jack, or all of the above

I use a 40l stell shelled engle although Im starting to think about going a plastic one or at least getting the bag for mine. If you can wing it get the dealer to fit the tiedown points for you. on that the older 25l(might be the 27l now) engle fits perfectly over the sponsons that are the "wheel arches" in the back.

Thanks for any tips in advance.

    Guys, guys, guys,

I'll get a steel bullbar - thanks for the tip. And I'll try out the standard jack before ditching it - but a ECU remap??? Man, I had to google it to even know what ya's talkin' about. You're going to have to keep it simple for me for a period, until I learn some more stuff.

Thanks for the bullbar info though - who ever heard of a plastic bullbar anyway?
