sorry I'm going OT, Ladas this depends on brand - for most vehicles they come into Singapore stripped down (no radio, no aircon, no heater, steel wheels, no colour coded bumpers etc) and this is for tax reasons... as we have 230% tax on top of the new vehicle price (all based on UK retail prices) so a cheap, super stripped out model coming through customs and then done up locally is far cheaper to the end buyer than a factory high spec vehicle.

Subaru get around this because almost all their vehicles here are comparitively cheap in England for some reason, resulting in less tax in the first place and negating the benefit of stripped down models - they then strip out the cold climate spec items for resale (heated seats, heated mirrors and the heater core itself)... weird but true

back on topic...
if you don't need a heater to keep yourself warm, why would you worry about keeping the thing? annual inspections?

cause if i throw it away i will need it one day and if i keep it i wont need it.

i was looking at the engine bay earlier and i have an excellent idea, i remove the heater box, keep the fan inplace as it sucks cold air in through the side guard, put a pod filter in the heater box's place and run the fan to blow cold air straight on to the filter. dont have to run the fan all time though just when needed.

i think that is a great idea.

I'll make a small suggestion. If you get some small bore copper tube, pliable type, and bend it into a snake. You would then still have a - albeit basic - heat exchanger of sorts that would offer some form of demist.

It would be really easy to make up, and less prone to failure/leaks than putting in a new heater matrix.

You could size the copper tube so it's the same size as the stubb connections on the current heater.

I've done this. I left everything in place and had a copper u shaped pipe made up by my plumber neighbour.

Where the heater pipes leave the front of engine and head for the firewall, we created (over a few beers) a short water circuit - easy!!!

I don't need a heater where I live......

i brought the biggest water caps i could find yesterday but they are no where near big enough so i think i will have to join the hoses as a circuit.
