You have not interrupted any water circulation path, merely removed the heater radiator/core/heat exchanger from the circuit.
hi guys,
i have an 80 model, stage 1 with 3.5 v8, twin carbie, petrol.
My question is, if i wanted to get rid of my heater box (which is buggered anyway) which is pitcured, can i just simply join the 2 hearter hoses together that go to the heater box????
i have done up a rough picture of what i mean. red is the heater hoses and blue is the proposed joining
let me know what you think!!!

Certainly no problem as far as theoperation ofthe vehicle is concerned. But, the ADR's, since 1972, require all vehicles made since 1/1/72 to have a demister. To meet the set performance standard requires heat. Disconnected heater cores render the vehicle unroadworthy. I do not know about other states, but in Qld, you will not be issued a Safety Certificate (RWC or pink slip) with a disconnected heater core. If detected at a roadside inspection, then a defect notice will be issued. This requires the defect to be repaired and a Safety Certificate obtained and presented to the Department. The Safety Certificate inspection covers the entire vehicle not just the defect. Could cost quite a lot if other defects are located by the inspection station.

Many cheap 2nd hand cars are imported into places like the philippines and malaysia - where the heaters are not required - ever, and this is exactly what they do
You are right on the money there.
Sorry, but WHAT do they do? .....disconnect/bypass heaters? .....or......people have problems with safety inspections with Asian import cars?Originally Posted by ladas
i had the same rangie, i removed the hoses completely and used blanking caps as i was told there was no need to complete the circuit unlike my 300tdi which needs to a complete circuitOriginally Posted by peanut84
They by-pass the heaters - as even with the best will in the world the valves (heater valves) if fitted will generally bleed hot water past them and then the heater competes with the air con.Originally Posted by byron
And in countries like the philippines/malaysia etc., you need all the air con you can get - all year round.
Sorry didn't make myself very clear 1st time round.
Even in Singapore, recently I was at a Subaru importer, brand new cars, and the first thing they do when the car arrives from Korea is fit the heater by-pass. Apparently it's cheaper than asking the factory to leave out the heater on the production line - which seems bloody odd to me.
thanks fellas,
well i know now i can do it now, but this business with the saftey cert is a good point.
now that fact of it all is that i will never sell the car as it was my pop's 4x4 then my dads then mine, so i will never need a saftey cert.
but if i was ever to be inspected then that would be a problem, so i figure that if i just get another one that works and keep it in the shed, so if i ever get done i can simply put it back in for a RWC.
Problem solved.
thanks for your help
Dan
You can simply blank of those 2 hose fittings however a smarter option is to introduce a heat exchanger for a shower unit..
as to the ADR's in place of the little radiator like hickey that is stuffed in the airbox buy and install a 12v ceramic heater and wire the switch up to the normal demister controls.
you are now ADR complient and dont have to wait for the engine to warm up for it to work.
