You can get a couple of different brands of Teflon lube for cables especially made for Marine use [on metres + long throttle and shift cables on boats] 2 differnt brands come with slightly different "syringe"-like applicators/dispensors so you can get the lubricant down into the sheathed cable.Quote:

Go to any motor cycle shop and buy a Cable Oiler, cost about $20 from memory. It attaches to the end of the cable sealing over the outer with the cable in place. Squirt some carbie cleaner or similar product through the cable. I then use motor cycle chain lube as it’s made thin to penetrate and then “solidifies” and stays on the cable filling the outer and preventing any other gunk from getting in. Worked a treat on many a dirt bike and has freed up the heater/vent cables on the defender so that even the lady can now use them without breaking into a sweat.

Well guys it all good now. I cleaned the inner and then sprayed some Lethium (spelling??) grease down the tube, and all good.
Also found that the cable had been feed around a strange way to the pump ie had alot of bends in it....Im no expert but Im thinking the less bends or curves in the cable the better??
Anyway just refeed it and its great now...but I will buy another new cable just in case as we are going away to Beachport mid Jan.
lithium is the right spelling and the less bends the better...
carrying a spare part for one that you've done some work on and are suspect about.
good idea... (pull it apart and soak lube it as described elsewhere in this thread before bagging it in a ziplock baggie)

RUN away.... they want your arm, both legs rights to your firstborn and conceptional privledges with your wife for what theyve got and one place tried to sell me a DII in exclelent condition saying that the ABS light being on was to tell me that the ABS system was working (after locking up all 4 wheels in front of the yard at 130kph-0 for a nice set of skidmarks squaring the tyres I offered to buy it if they replaced the rubber and fixed the abs. the salesman was most upset until I pointed out he said the ABS was working and I was mearly testing it). The bloke who wanted to buy it was convinced that maybe a v8 disco wasnt for him and could he have a go at the diesel?
Save your money and go for a trip to melbourne or ask around for people who are willing to have an eyeball for you.

I am concerned that what the text describes, what the broad word picture describes and what the pics show are different things but that may just be a cut and paste cockup. Eyeball it, drive it, if it feels good, and the owner doesnt try to string you a line and can back up everything hes listed you wont be far of having a great wagon.

So does all the above advice go for a Disco1 V8 throttle cable?
Mine is only sticking slightly. It requires a small amount of pressure on the pedal to get it to move so in the low gears it can be annoying if you are trying to be gentle.
This is regardless of the throttle position before you start pressing on the pedal.
I am just assuming it is the cable at this stage. I disconnected it from the engine and gave it resistance with a rubber band and it was still there. I also sprayed the throttle pedal spring and bits with silicone spray and WD-40 which made the pedal fell better but still had the stickyness.
It doesn't look like you can separate the inner and outer on this one.
Sometimes it is worse than other times. It has been doing it since I've owned the car (4 years) and has never really gotten any worse over time.
Best grease for that job any many others around the home and car is Slick Honey.
I used it on my bikes and car and its wicked. Go get some now. Comes in a big syringe.:p
