Hi Guys,
I carry kayaks on the landy pretty regularly, so I'm on and off the roof rack quite often, often with 15 to 20 kg boats in hand.
When climbing on from the rear I just step up to the tow hitch, then across and up the hinges on the spare wheel carrier.
When climbing up the front, I've a couple of reinforced panels to protect the top of the wheel arches, or at least they will when I get around to installing them. I'm sure they'll do a great job... eventually. :-)
I'm pretty short at 5'9", and weigh around 90 to 95 kg and I've not noticed any strain on the hinges yet.
As a side note, how have other fitted the panels? Self tappers? Rivets? Std chequer plate field day specials.
cheers
Dave
