The original LR fuel tank (plastic version) has two breathing pipes. A large one just above the filler and a smaller one somewhere else.
When I build my own tank - do I need to "breather's" or is one enough.

one is enough for small tanks if its at the highest point..
I prefer to p to 3 in.
one next to the filler and 2 in the corners furthest from the filler
if you extend the filler about 1/4 of an inch into the tank ,cut it at a slight angle and put the breather behind the hangy down bit then it will breath a lot better.
Ive got some rough diags of that part of a tank if thats any help..

green is for vents (the little black line traces the hookup of the breather pipes)
blue is return
red is supply
black is for fill
if you baffle with the extra peice of mesh in the horizontal plane then the return pipe should finish about 1/2 an inch from that to assist in the prevention of aeration of the fuel (assuming its a fuel tank) and the pickup should obviously go down to about 1/4 inch off of the bottom with a gauze covering and the right angle bend facing backwards.
naturally if the filler is at the highest point of the tank the front 2 breathers can be ommited. and the top of the wedge shape cut in the filler pipe (bit nearest the underside of the top of the tank) should be positioned so that when the fluid level is at that level there is the appropriate ullage space.
ball park the ullage as 5% for dieso and water and 10% for petrols... although its not reccomended If your going to be drawing from that tank straight off you can then slow fill that last little bit to draw those extra clicks.
The tank that this layout was pinched from was a cruiser ute and its sitting where the spare wheel would under the tray and it fills from the back side of the vehcile next to the numberplate. hes got his breathers plumbed into the normal tanks filler neck as well as the back tanks filler neck. Dont ask me why I dont know...
(edit) the resize seems to have knocked a couple of lines out. the vertical line from the side profile from the rear breather is missing as is the top line for the pickup tube. I think its pretty obvious where they go but if you need it I'll email you the original .jpg file
