Got a pre Cat replacement pipe second hand. Cost about $300 if I remember properly. The CAT in a Defender sits below the passenger footwell and because they operate at about 500 degrees the heat transmission into the cabin is enormous. Mine was a lot cooler after replacing the pipe which was the primary reason for replacing it. Thought it might be a bit safer too being less likely to catch fire with grass build up etc.

PS - I thought it went a bit better without it but might have just been my imagination.

    Thumbs up

Recently purchased Allisport plug in tuning module from Andy in U.K. Installed it myself (noticed oil in harness so replaced harness).
    Then dyno Graeme Cooper.
After dyno stated Max 75.1 kw
I noticed after dyno vehicle power much more usable and wider usable power range. Smoother through gears with less changes.
    Recommended.

    Cheers,

    DRS

Definitely had a cat as it is now sitting in the shed.

Mine was the last of the UK built Defenders before they switched to the South African supplied vehicles.

    Much better without it.

    Hey DRUT

I have had the ECU from my 2003 TD5 Defender 90 upgraded by Tombraider and it is absolutely brilliant. It has really transformed the car, making it much more responsive.

The extra power is very noticeable, particularly in 3rd 4th and 5th gear. The torque increase makes easy work of hills and steep climbs. Hills that used to slow me down now aren’t a problem. I just accelerate up them with seemingly little effort. The upgrade is just an all-round great package.

There doesn’t seem to be any increase in exhaust smoke either and the fuel economy is about the same as it was before the upgrade. I don’t use my 90 to tow anything so unfortunately I can’t comment on the difference that the extra torque from the upgrade will make when towing heavy loads.

I’ve also have a 3” exhaust system that has been fitted for a while now which allows the turbo to spool up faster so that the turbo lag isn’t an issue.

    Cheers

    MOS
