I must agree but, a 265 is a better conversion than a 250, but seriously he was talking red 6, i mean, YUK, 250 easy, can be had for less than a slab(Find me a hemi 6 for that price!!) and will outlast those horrible holden 6 pots
My experience as a service rep. and fleet manager is that countless red Holden's in taxi and fleet service clocked up 300,000+ k's without even having the rocker cover off. They also held together pretty well at Bathurst running 5000 to 7000+ rpm for 500 miles winning against Falcon GT's with 75% larger engines.Quote:

The holden six kicked ford 351 **** big time, I've got one and like it - but if I was doing a conversion I'd defiantly go the ford V8 donk. Gearbox options are the reason, FoMoCo made some good stuff - C4, Toploader, NP435 - these can be adapted to the landie transfer easily (kind of).
A done up - torquie Holden six is easy to obtain but you are still stuffed when it comes to the gearbox options (no way the series box is a good option). No point in doing two conversions, trust me, I've just been down that road.
Anyway, If (IMO) you have a holden six already - keep it, but if you are looking to replace the rover donk - Go Ford V8 (don't **** around with the six)
keep the holden motor and the landie gearbox and look for a 4.1:1 ratio crown wheel and pinion conversion, mine was fine at hwy speeds for years until I retired the old girl when we bought the defender as a matter of fact she is out in the paddock looking for a home pity your not closer to gippsland

Just thought I would pop in a note to say I own an 1984 XE fairmont which has just clocked 410,000 and has never had the head off and it still runs like a dream, its only issue is the valve stem seals which disappeared a while back.

What is the ratio on the rangie diffs - I know it's popular.
Looks like Ill be moving to Sydney for a while - so ill need to get one of the series done for a road trip...
