    Coolant requirements. V8I

Is there any special requirements for coolant replacement for the 3.5V8I in my Disco I?

I want to carry a spare bottle and don't want to risk damaging the head if I use the wrong replacement.

It's been many years since I have had an older car to worry about carrying spare fluids so I'm a little out of touch.

    Thanks.

Tectalloy. Aussie made for Aussie conditions. Hell, they even make a special coolant for Adelaide's renowned water. However, just about any well known brand name coolant additive is acceptable. If your vehicle still carries its user manual, check the standard it requires, and anything that complies is it.

    Shorty.

    Hi Chris
This will get shifted to the tech forum by the moderators,we have all posted in the wrong spot from time to time
If the Disco is new to you drop the coolant and fully flush(including running the heater),you dont know what brand is in there or how long its been in there.
Get a good quality coolant(plenty of good stuff available) that meets the specs for the V8 then you know what to top it up with.
Some coolants become corrosive over time especially mixed with a different brand/type.
    Goodluck

Get the best you can afford, ethylene based, WITHOUT methanol, containing an inhibitor for aluminum engines.

    a 50/50 water antifreeze mix.

As said above it's always best to dump and flush, especially if you don't know what is in there already - and really flush, as many antifreeze products don't mix to well.

After you have got clean water exiting after the flush, top up with water, run the car to normal - with the heater on, then reflush twice before adding the final cocktail of water and af.

Sounds interesting. I've just got to sort out a clutch problem at the moment. I'm hoping it is just a hydraulic problem at the moment. Not drivable at the moment.
