The shuttle valve issue is often aggravated by dirty brake fluid - try getting the fluid changed - if you do it yourself it may look fine - but does not clean out the modulator properly -through test book they can force bleed it I believe that works the valves and helps clean out the crap..

I use the power bleed when doing the brakes I have the rovacom lite but it may still need to be pulled to bits and cleaned I changed the fluid a couple of weeks ago and pulled the brake resivior off to clean it as there was a film all around it and I presume that will be in the modulator as well,

You don't say what car you've got?!?

If it's Freelander, it could be as simple as the difference in tyre wear between front & rear.

I'm having this problem as well. Where are the connectors for the ABS sensors located?? If it is possible that one of these is loose i will check them out before i head off to the mechanics.

the front ones are above the wheel arch the right hand one is under the brake booster,the rear ones are near the brake lines on a bracket mounted to the spring tower.

Just to add some spice to the threads - I have a 2002 Defender (102,000 kms) which has the two amigo problem all the time now. After trying to get help from the local service stations I had to resort to the dealer, who after having the car for a week announced that after numerous tests and email correspondance with LandRover UK, the ABS Modulator has failed and I'm up for $9,000 to replace it...:o

Being in a moderate-sized town in WA, there aren't too many specialists locally that I can go to, so at the moment I'm hoping that the dealer will come to some arrangement as far as sharing the cost, despite being out of warranty.

Just wondering, has anyone had any success along those lines of dealer charity ? Lucy mentions some possibility of this happening in NSW, but no final outcome posted yet that I can see...

Just to make things worse, the dealer advised that I risk total brake failure without having this problem corrected, which really puts me between a rock and a hard place...

Anyway, enough horror stories for the moment - be glad to hear how others have coped with this sort of grief.

I've seen this mentioned somewhere else. This forum or another, can't remember :confused: I'm sure there was a cheaper way of replacing the original SLABS unit.

I've done a fair bit of searching and have found lots of references to Wabco shuttle valve repair kits, second hand units from Oz and o/s (without finding anything specific as to who to get them from, but I'm sure a bit more searching could find that out), as well as other possible solutions such as dirty brake fluid, sensor gaps/dirt, faulty connectors and so on, but in the absence of anyone local who I have confidence in working on the problem, I'm a bit dubious about some of these options... At the moment I still trust the dealer, so will hold out for a few days yet !
