    differences between 200/300tdi

in the future, i may have the aging V8 replaced with an oil burner. question is; in your opinion which is the better tdi/gearbox combo? 200tdi/lt77 or 300tdi/r380?

    thanks.

300 Tdi with the ZF Auto!!!

Actually the 2.8 variety of the 300 Tdi with the ZF Auto.

OR just rebuild the V8 - 4.0 would go well, ask Barney!!!

Although power and torque didnt change, there are many differences btn the two. Some notibles ones are the timing belt on the 300 (needs replacing around 80,000km), greater turbo boost on the 300 and landrover made over 200 minor changes to make the 300 more refined (quieter) and maintainable.

I'd also image that parts for the 200 are becoming harder to obtain, but parts for the 300 are easy to get.

no, I promised I wouldnt bag autos any more than absolutely required...

    were you just baiting me.....

    (ba$!@rd)

I thought he was aiming for a really dependable and economical vehicle or he would have been keeping the v8.......

imagine asking a poor little 2.5l engine to pull all the extra weight of the ZF...

actually having got my hands on the power routing (mechanical) schematic of the electronic ZF with about 5-6 mods that landrover didnt do that wouldnt be a bad box to have...

although I just re-read the post...

If he wants an oil burner its an old v8 just run it till it drops half the rings out....
