Wiring AC fans to AC switch??

My 1994 D1 V8 manual aircon fans definately come on when the aircon is running (fans run constantly with aircon). I have had them also run after low range work on a hot day. They even continued to run after I switched the engine off and removed the key (only ever did this once). I can't see much point in the fans running when the coolant isn't circulating though.

They are AC fans & continue to run with Ign. off to drop the system HP as well as clear the hot air out of the bay as well, I guess.

Yes they should run 'back to front' - so even if you have connected them up in the wrong direction they would still run - if they were working.

There is a run on timer diode in the circuit - that as stated before brings the pressure of the gas down after stopping - as you don't want a compressor to start up with high head pressure - could cause damage, and it also helps engine cool down a little, there is quite a bit of residual engine bay heat when you stop.

I did check to see which plug I had....I thought if there is power in the plug I have the wrong one to test the fans :)

May be a really daft question ...............but are you "Shaw" that you are connecting +/- to the fan side of the connector - not the supply side......

Thanks. We do the same thing at work (manually) on our big workshop compressor. I probably should have known there would be a similar thing going on under my bonnet.

ahh but the coolant will circulate from convection cooling and your also pushing air through the engine bay so the block although not very effieciently will dissapate more heat.

No.....I did think of that.....I made sure by testing with a test light and of course the one with power comes from car or fuse box or wherever and the other doesnt have power cos its connected to the fan.....

But I had a good Irish mate test it for me just "to be Shaw to be shaw" had I can now confrim the "The Fans Are Rooted"....so the search starts for replacements.........But I wont have them done for Monady when we leave so Look out LR spare Parts people !

Or does anybody have any kicking around the shed??:D

Also would it be worth pulling the grill off/out to get better flow through the the ac condenser, auto cooler & Rad?

Might look a little stupid but at least it would get more air flow.....what do you think?

Wouldn't recommend it, you are more likely to 'collect' quite a few more bugs, which would block the coil more than any resistance by the grille - and if you hit a bird or something - it could go straight through - condenser and radiator.
