you may have the oil in the harness thing but more than likely your throttle position sensor is on the fritz..

the first is a PITA the second is an easy fix bit a mite pricey.

Not sure if this will help at all, but does it do it in both high and low range?

There are different throttle maps for high and low.

It might help work out where the problem is if you can discover whether it only does it in high range or in both.

sounds silly but GU 2.8 TD nissan patrol throttle was similarly jumpy on low throttle solution for many was cheap piece of sponge behind accelerator pedal, l opted for powerchip upgrade solution at $1200

then it is definately the throttle position sensor

When in high range the first 50% or so of power is controled by only the first 1/4 or so of travel and the rest of your power by the last 3/4 of pedal travel, giving you good control at higherer speeds.

when in low range the ratios reverse the first 50% of power is deliverd by the first 3/4 of pedal movement and the other half in the last 1/4 of pedal movement giving good control of the low speed situations.

if it was oil in the harness the fault would be the same at relative engine speeds

since it changes with range selection it must be the TPS...

    Jumpy Td5 Accelerator

    Hi,
Just remember that there is a 2 wire and a 3 wire throttle potensiometer depending on the model.
The 3 wire was produced to smooth out the pedal action.

    Hi Defender 1st
The moderators will shift this to the tech section,if you cant find it.
Another mod the Defender owners do that they report works is to remove the clutch position sensor.
Im thinking you may have the oil in the harness issue,to check find your ECU (under the seat) carefully unplug the red connector plug,if there is oil there you need to replace the injector harness(inside engine)asap. If there is no oil there you will need to also check for oil where the injector harness exits the head.Remove plastic noise cover CAREFULLY unplug the connector at the left front of the head,SHOULD BE NO OIL AT ALL.
The injector harness can be done by any reasonable backyard mechanic.Get a new one from a non dealer specialist.Search AULRO for my ''Flush the harness" method to remove the oil from the main loom. Also search AULRO for "oil in the harness" plenty of posts on this lateley.
