    G'day Seriesly

Still got all forward gears, Reverse Idler gear stripped, the little one down in the bottom of the box, or the detent spring for reverse up at the selectors is dead and not allowing you to get reverse after it spat it out of gear.

    cheers

    G'day Folks

Yeah well, all forward gears, No reverse just gotta be Reverse Idler used to sell them by the gross that is usually a free gift with the Holden/Falcon powered ones, while you are at it replace the push on nylon gearlever bush at the bottom of the gear lever (G73 on Page 23 Melb Cattalogue No33 $16.50), makes gear changing so much more positive

Excuse my ignorance but which catalogue is that?

Whilst we're discussing series 3 boxes, I've also got a little problem with mine - nothing too serious.
When I change between any gear and let the clutch out quick there is a bit of a clunk. I don't suspect a throwout bearing or gearbox / engine mounts (both were apparently near new). At the moment I'm suspecting excess end play in one of the shafts (layshaft?). There is also a fair bit of a rattle when going from accelerating to coasting, particularly in 4th.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Is it something I can ignore for the moment (i.e. forever or until it breaks)?

Four Wheel Drives in Melbourne - it is a great resource, but I found that FWD Motors in Brisbane had better prices (and probably supplies FWDs in Melbourne) - confusing that the 2 names are so similar.

Does the gear level move back-forth when you go on and off the accelerator in any gear? You sure it isn't the clutch?

    Series III

    Mr Seriesly,

I had a 2A with a 186 on gas with extractors, little beauty, It had plenty of power and was a great first 4wd. I did have probs with the series 3 gearbox we put in though after the original one failed. However, the 2A box without synchro was a lot tougher and still quite easy to drive, even my vertically challenged mate could drive it. FWDs in Blackburn Sth, Melbourne, are very good for parts and advice, give them a yell.

    Good luck!

Hmmm, I'll have to have a look when I get it back on the road. Come to think of it, if it was any other car I'd probably suspect the clutch.

    uncleho,
    the shifter has a ball-type end,with a rubber o-ring around it.
does this mean the nylon bush is missing??
i can see how a square type end mightfit in the selectors better, but the shift in the box isnt reaaally sloopy or anything.

do i pack the selector ends with grease or something?

    cheers,seriesly
