Holden Inj V8, into P38

I've just done it to a 4L block (55D) from 99 Disco 2.

The liners are a stepped liner and are inserted after the block has a step amchined into the decks.

This solution prevents the liner slipping and guarantees a seal around the fire ring on the head gasket. Unless there is a catastrophic coolant loss which goes unnoticed, the engine doesn't leak coolant leading to overheat failure.

I got the liners from UK, had the machining done in Melbourne.

Des Hammill's book was prchased through www.pitstop.net.au in Perth. From memory, the cost was about $75.

Top Hat Liners are also known as Stepped Liners:) they are common in diesels, the liner has a collar around the top, the block has a recess machined into it, the liner is then pressed into the block, seating into the recess, this insures that there is a gas tight seal around the head/block join:D that then eliminates the slipped liner problem. the main reason that stepped liners were not used would have been production cost:( "Sells Spare Parts";)

these liners should be available in Australia,as they would be a standard production size, they are usually sold by height, diameter, length, and grade.

I have the book as well and am looking to build up a reaonable quick motor. Fair amount of info to sort through though.
