You missed my point. I also probably didn't make it clear either. From what I can see the problem does seem to be just clearing minor service faults. Like you I get very suspicious when I simply hear of a "software problem".

I looked into this for sometime with my Td5 when LR pulled any access to Testbook from me (one day it was 500m away next day it was 1100km). I was worried about getting a fault on the car and either not knowing about it or being unable to move the vehilcle (which did happen in the end).

It's quite amazing how often a vehicle can overcome an internal fault. If only Windows was as forgiving!

ok many thanks, as with most S/W applications in 99% of cases it is the old fat finger problem, i.e the operator has no idea what they are doing and if it does something unexpected it is because they pused the wrong bloody button!

Anyway it all looks good so far.

Any ideas on the diesel chip that diesel tuning distribute? Any good, what method is it using? is is it a modified engine map program or one of these "resistor" type things?

Welcome to AULRO, glad that you made it across ;)

dm_td5, that's the good thing about the D3. There are very very few problems that will actually stop it.

Mine had a steering angle sensor fail (which consequently shuts down all traction aids as they require input from this sensor) and a compressor failure. I was still able to drive in both incidences. Even though the trip to the dealer (who was then 400km away) was something akin to driving in a 2.5tn bouncy castle.

Sorry if I was a bit abrupt in my earlier post. I know where your coming from with the dealer/distance thing. I'd just come back from my dealer whose now 550km away and they'd failed to do something that I asked (reset the suspension geometry due to uneven wearing of tyres - a known fault , except to them aparently, even though there's a TSB.) They asked me if I could book again next week!

Peter, I haven't yet had any 'chipping done', mainly because the motor has enough for me and I'm dubious about the effect upon long term wear. Also, it appears to me that they only affect the on-road mapping and not the of-road settings (although 'Sand Mode' has been described as having the same effect as chipping!).

Hi Pete - if you want info on chipping, find any post posted by TombRaider, and then send him a PM. I know he does chip upgrades to TD5s (and even the new unreleased Defender aparaently) so he will most likely have info on the TDV6. I've driven a few and compared to a TDi300 they have heaps of grunt so you may not need anything done.

G'day mate and welcome aboard, I have the V8, no probs with Sat Nav, only issue I had in the early days ( have had it for over 12 mths now) was a suspension issue in relation to software. That was cleared and now problems since.

The active rear diff is a great option for $1000 :) .
Makes a difference in the rough stuff & it's the cheapest locker you'll find (apart from the CIG type).

If you intend to do serious offroading then it's a good thing to have.

I am about to fit front and rear lockers to our defender as it's headed some out of the way places in it's future. The thing is... if you're out there and you find yourself in a position where you need a locker ... you can't decide to fit it then :O

In the sand dunes they are a real help. If you only want to go to fraser you won't need it. :)

EDIT: The defender has ETC and it's very very good. It's much better than no locking mechanisms at all, but it isn't as good as a real locker. :)
