To enter the code, at the Code 1 prompt, key in the 4 digit code using the numbers as displayed on the station preset keys. Do not press any other key. If you have successfully entered the correct code, then the radio will active immediately.

If you have entered the incorrect code then it will display Code 2 (your second chance at entering the correct code, not the second possition as I had assumed...). If you stuff it up a second time it will then display Code 3. After that it will display ---- ---- and will lock you out for 1 hour. The 1 hour lock out is with the radio turned on, i.e. locking your car and walking away for 1 hour does not count. Leave you key in position 1 (or 2) and wait for the Code 1 to be displayed again to have another go...

I discovered this after I replaced 5 blown globes in the radio, still have 3 more globes to replace once it buy some more...

(Clock globe = Fixed, Air-con globes= Fixed, Radio globes=5 done 3 to go)

Would love to get some more detail and possibly a few pics on replacing the globes in the radio as a few of mine have stopped working.

Can I ask what you'd do if you don't have a code at all?

I never got the code with the owners handbook with my 2nd hand TD5 and while the radio works fine now - the 1st time I disconnect the battery I'm going to lose radio function. I'm planning to do some work on it soon which means removing the battery

Any asistance appreciated - thanks!

However if you call the dealer who originally delivered the vheicle they may give to you as I had to do with mine.

Now you set me a challenge, how to post pics...

The radio in question:

Remove the two side clips, one screw on each side and carefully remove the front assembly. Note, there is a small ribon cable that needs to be detached at the printed circuit board end.

Unscrew the printed circuit board, there are quite a number of screws so be sure to get them all including the two "hidden" screws.

Once out you can see the green globes. Well actually standard 3mm 12v 50mA globes covered by little green condoms... You need to slip these off and save them for the replacement globes.

In the first picture here I have removed the green covers off three globes. In the second picture I have started to install the green covers on the new globes.

Two new globes have been installed and are waiting on their tails to be chopped. (Don't look too close at my soldering job)

To get to the three globes that light up the LCD display you need to separate the two printed circuit boards. Using solder wick, or a vacuum desoldering pump if you have one, carefully desolder the two rows of pins from the LCD screen. Once separated you can easily get to the three globes. (You don't really need to do this as the globes can be desoldered and removed from the back side. I just found it more convenient to do it this way as you can hold onto the globe from the other side while you are soldering the tails.)

Thats it, just put it all back when your done. Now all of my globes in the dash have been repaired/replaced. Maybe time for a pic tonight of a fully working dash.

My 2001 D2V8 just had engine transplant (don't ask) and is now running great but radio's blocked. Found code in service history booklet but either the unit's since been replaced or something's up.

I get "CODE 1" which changes to "CODE 1 2" and then "CODE 2" to "CODE 2 2" and then "CODE 3" to ------ ------. It seems subtly different to what is reported above in that I'm getting the 2 digits displayed. Just wondered if significant somehow.

Now to wait for the block to reset so I can try and block it again. If anyone has any suggestions in the meantime, much appreciated...

The Code 1 changing to Code 2 etc means you are either entering in the code incorrectly or you have the wrong code.

You can take the serial number of the radio and your VIN to a dealer and they will be able to lookup the codes for you. While your at it get the EAK (Emergency Access Key code) as well, it is on the same screen as the radio code. My local dealer did this for free.

I'm in the same boat bought a 2001 Td5 with no radio code enquired with land Rover and was told that Eurovox Radio codes are not available through Land Rover anymore as Eurovox is no longer trading. You can get the codes from the company that bought them out for a fee I think it was $20, still haven't got around to getting one yet.
