New shocks and springs for a '93 Disco

Pete, I agree with Tombraider on the Pedders, they were fitted to my previous 93 Disco, looked brand new (less than 12 months old, I was told), they were completely shot, I fitted 2" lift Lovell's springs, they have different rates of springing for each corner, to compensate for Driver, Battery etc. and are labelled accordingly, great lift, great ride, $320 the set of 4. I fitted Bilsteins, they are worth every penny

What Tombraider doesn't mention is the 2 minute drive from his place (actually anyone's place in Whyalla) over to Mt Laura to give the new suspension a test! Make it well worth the trip!

Got the EFS kit on mine, pretty happy with it. Firmer on road than standard, but copes well loaded and off road. Car feels really well balanced when its got a load in the back....

It's very interesting in regards to the Pedders. I had pedders springs fitted to my 93 Rangie when the air suspension was removed and they lasted about 18 months of hard off-road abuse then in the bin they went. Mine were so bad that they sagged 60mm on the RHS :eek: :eek: :eek:

Have sent an email to the 4wd spares online site as mentioned before and called them too but as yet they still haven't gotten back to me about the EFS or Billi' prices. In the meantime I spoke to a Rover spares place and the actual replacement setup using original shocks and springs in only going to set me back about $750.

Am I right in thinking that shocks and springs that are perfectly matched to the vehicle in the first place are going to be better than aftermarkets or am I off base on this?

Give the guys at Graeme Cooper in Sydney a call. I rang them up and discussed what I wanted to do with my 97 TDI Disco (raised - about 2 inches, set up for touring, winch & bar etc), and they picked a set of springs (from 13 different sizes) and got the Bilstein shocks, all delivered the next day. Fitted them myself, just had to get a wheel alignment done at the end. Very happy with the much improved handling both on and off road. Works for me, as I was starting to get overwhelmed with all the options available. Only change I'm considering in the near future is the addition of some poly air bags for when I pull the camper trailer, which is slowly becoming more often.

(Oh defiantely much better ride and performance than the stock springs and shocks IMHO)

Well I finally got my reply from 4WD direct:
"In this instance, as your vehicle is not the normal, standard type
suspension application, I suggest you deal through one of your local
suspension outlets were they can physically sight the vehicle and best
respond to your particular requirements."

I guess having duel fuel and towing a boat is too difficult to work out! For crying out loud, give me a break!

So, I'll give Cooper a call and see if they can assist me.

Hey mate, I am fitting new springs on my rangie this week, I bought them from Tyre power at Kincumber

I went with the ironman 45mm lift for $280 for the set, same ones I put on my brothers poortol and carrys about a tonne on the back plus a cattle trailor

coupled with my Bilstein shocks it should be a great combo

The Lovell's springs I mentioned in the previous post are designed to emulate the Land rover ride and combined with the Bilstiens they do a good job, Regards Frank.
