Get the motor/gearbox/transfer and swap the lot.Its all meant to live together.
You probably need to get your propshafts altered, and get a disc brake handbrake for the propshaft.
Its the easiest way around a transplant.

I swapped from LR 2.25 petrol to LR 2.25 diesel.
A good 2.25D has the economy and characteristics for a good off-road work - you crawl over things not crash through them. Before I left for Switzerland the little oiler would do on average 10L/100km... when I return it will need some TLC to bring it back to life. They will never break the speed record but with an overdirve (I have a banshee) I could keep on 60mph on the freeway. I'd stay away from HSTC conversions with the LR oiler - you will need all the gears. They are not bad engines, merely misunderstood

I'd say find a good LR2.25D. Keep it "in the family"
LR2.5D would probably be a better option but near to impossible to source one in Oz.
IMHO 200/300 would be too much hassle...
3.9 Isuzu - too heavy for a shorty
