Ive just recently brought a disco 2 V8 ,4ltr petrol, 2000 model.
Its a auto 4 speed. Im not sure how they are geared but it doesnt drop into 4th until i reach 80/85 kms p/h. Is this normal for this model or should it drop into 4th gear earlier than what it is doing at the moment.
The car itself is running fine and im happy with my purchase .

Are you sure it's not the torque convertor lock up you're feeling at around 80kph ? (It does feel like a gear change)

No its staying in 3rd gear till i reach 80/85kms then it drops into 4th.
It just feels like its hanging on to 3rd gear a bit to long.
Once it drops i can back down to 60kms and it will stay in 4th until i stop or give it a bit .

Are you experiencing any other problems with the gearbox, like selecting reverse might be a bit hard?

No, its going into gear smoothly.
I was told that its no problem but wanted to see if other peoples discos done the same.

Depending how hard I have the hard pedal pushed - or if I have sports mode OFF - 4th drops in at 60 - 65

With sports mode on it's 10 - 15k's later

Have you checked if the sports mode button is ON ??

I have played around with the sports mode but still no change.
With sports mode on, the green light comes on in the dash is that correct.

Yes the green light comes on

.................but you say there is no change ???, you should notice the difference in change up's when in sports mode - maybe it's stuck on ?

I was thinking the same, maybe it is stuck on.
I can be driving when its dropped to 4th gear then apply the sports mode and dont feel any change, It should kick back shouldnt it.
I think i will have to get someone to have a look at it for me before my warranty runs out.
