Safari snorkel install and air box

Didn't want to hijack the airflow thread so thought I would start my own.

On the weekend i fitted a safari snorkel to my 300tdi disco.

In the bottom of the air box there are a number of small holes to let water drain out, they look as if they would also be good for letting water in.

What have others done about them? don't really want to just sika them up incase any water does want to escape!

    Cheers

    Paul

oxy safe silicone does the job .... and any other potential leaks

the only water getting in should be a bit of rain/splashes through the top
it'll evaporate with the volume of air going through

I just did the airbox part yesterday and siliconed up the holes as per the instructions, will be cutting the hole in the outer guard tonight. Was the template accurate also the mounting holes do they need to be elongated or did you just mark and drill ?

The guy doing the Airflow install was not happy with the template,,

I'd check everywhich way possible before cutting anything---

Must have missed the part that said silicon up the holes...

The template for the outside was good,

The directions for the inner hole are a bit average.

They say 72mm (dimension might not be right, instructions still in the truck) down from the lip of the inner guard, or something like that anyway

I measured the point, and drilled my hole, it turned out about 12mm too low, they mean from the top edge of that inner guard, I took that point to be the outer guard as it's part of the same bit of metal but obviously not!

With a few minutes on a file all's good now

I should have checked everything lined up but I was eager to get cutting holes in my truck over with!

Inner guard was fairly straight forward, the outer guard i'm going slow on on as i dont want the hole any bigger than needed.

My template was good, with the mounting holes :
    I measured
    I marked
    checked
    double checked
    and drilled
    - the holes I drilled were deliberately oversized (round, not oval as shown)and then I cut about 30mm discs out of a tyre tube and used them as isolating washers under the large bolt washers.
All the incompatible metals are isolated from each other.
Didn't like the idea of SS, brass and alum all in contact, dont forget the loctite

Inner guard was fairly straight forward, the outer guard i'm going slow on on as i dont want the hole any bigger than needed.
I cut the outer guard first and then put the holesaw into the large oval hole to cut the inner guard from outside, not the motor side, (if that makes sense) there wasn't enough room in the engine bay for the drill and holesaw, was easy that way.

4wd systems have amended the airflow instructions and a tip they give on the mounting holes is to place a dob of grease on each of the holes, line up your snorkel then push in to place. The grease marks your drill holes. Only catch is the outside hole needs to be cut so you can push the snorkel up against the panel. (They recommend this way around anyway as your main aim is to line the snorkel body up and then everything else SHOULD! line up. The template with the airflow snorkels is no where near accurate for the mounting holes but was fine for the main hole

I cut the inner hole while the filter box was out and also moved the washer bottle as it was only 30 sec to remove/ install and this gave me room for the die grinder to open the hole up , good point on the rubber discs. I cut one hole in the outer guard last night but by the time i had dinner it was too late to fire up the compressor and die grinder again, will finish when i get home.

Anyone installed a Safari SS350HF on a 97 V8 without ABS? Got any photos of a non-ABS V8 or TDi engine bay with one installed?
On the Safari site there are two versions, ABS and non-ABS.
I can't see how the air box would sit in the SS350HF (non ABS) And it looks like its shorter along the guard... Does the air box get moved? Does the air box still get modded with a cap where the ram was?
    or is the picture wrong?
