You mean the powerstroke engine that one of the guys on here sells? should fit, but don't know how it affects the computers. Why not just chip and intercool the TD5?

If you hate electronics why get the TD5 in the first place?

Personally I think your asking for a nightmare even considering a swap.

If you were to put a 2.8 into a Defender, start from scratch keep the TD5 till the new Defender is ready. Get an older 300tdi Defender strip it and rebuild around the 2.8

You probably wont get it registered as the crd td5 is built for tougher adr's than the 2.8. Sell it and buy a high k tdi fender and start a build.

How long shall I wait Frenchie?????

Been waiting 6 years and many very nasty kilometers...
    Around 200+ deep water crossings

    And all making over 170+kw....

So when do the problems start?

You could buy a lot of spares for the price of a conversion. If you are so worried about the Td5 you could trade down to a Tdi Defender. There will be some good ones out there. I sold my '97 model with 70,000km on it a couple of years ago. Got $21,000 trade in for it.
