If you are not sure whether you have OAT or glycol coolant, there is one available that is compatable with both.
It is Prestone brand and I believe sold by the majors.

Isn't it incredible that so called professional's will happily tell there staff to do the wrong thing. Even before i came to this site and never knew the difference between coolents, you would never catch me mixing two different types, not even two different brands of the same type without flushing the cooling system first. Very disturbing to hear.

Hi guys, well it appears that the problem is oil in the harness, Landy andy i have searched for your thread on flushing the harness but can't find it. Do you have a link as we might be able to give it a go. Do you need to still replace the injector harness or can you flush that too.
Around what kind of $ should they expect for the harness.
Hi Wortho
You have PMs.
You need to get the new injector harness, its causing the problem.$300 MAX depending on supplier, check the site sponsors, dealers will sting you BIGTIME.

I was getting my Disco II serviced at Range-Rov, and one time (when they were running late) it came back with water in it, no coolant. I took it back soon after (for other re-work as usual) and they tried to tell me it wasn't water, then when they worked out I wasn't blind, they tried to say someone else did it (no else touched it), then they got frustraated and said they would look at it.
When they returned it, there was coolant in it (amazing), which they charged me for, and, the icing on the cake, they charged me for disposal of the old coolant.
What can I say......
glycol can be used in the td5 BUT its a lot more maintenance intensive than the OAT.
you must thoroughly flush the engine's cooling system when you change OAT or if you dont know what is in it before you put OAT in. all the bad things mentioned above can happen if you dont..
I personally use the Nulon OAT that comes in a concentrated 5l bottle that you mix down with distilled water. when you mix it to the maximum reccomended percentage it leaves you just enough in the bottle to make up some premixed ready to go OAT coolant and the ability to (if needed) add up to about 2l of distilled water to the system to get you out of trouble if you have a minor leak.
some words of warning.
Pure H20 is better than
glycol that is too strong
glycol that is too weak
OAT that is too strong
OAT that is too weak.
so..
IF you are in an emergancy situation and have lost your coolant you are better off to flush the whole system out with as much water as you can before filling it up again. Last time I did big red it took 3 fills/drains to get the all the coolant washed out so I could refil it.
