rangie, 3.5v8, air conditioning, megasquirt ++

    Hi Folks,
considering megasquirting my 3.5 and have just started looking at what might be the problems involved. First I have found is that I cannot find a clear diagram on weither the air conditioning is connected to the ecu on the flappy type l-jectronic this beasty has.
One circuit diagram I found (no idea if this is the aus version) shows 4 connections to the ecu harness but gives no indication on what the connections might be for.
Are they inputs to tell the ecu to up the idle when the compressor is on? though this should only take one connection. From the location in the overall diagram the ecu seems to have over-ride control of the air con.
Has anyone megasquirted their rangie and what problems did they bump into and does anyone have any idea how to disconnect the air con from the existing ecu.
Also it appears that there is a water temp switch that connects directly to the air con fans, am I reading that correctly?

    Terry

On a 3.9 there is a switch which connects to the fans.
It is situated on the side of the thermostat housing, a big nut with 2 wires. Bridge the wires and the fans come on, or should anyway..Have a look.
On a 3.9 the aircon switch tells the ECU it is on and it activates the stepper motor to raise idle.
BUT AFAIK the 3.5 flapper does not have a stepper. I think there is no connection.

I can't answer your questions but I have had the idea of running a Holden type engine management system on my 3.5. I assume it would just be a matter of getting the appropriate sensors and throttle body, then wiring it up and having a chip written to suit. With oxy sensors and closed loop cruise it should get better economy.
