Is there anything physically different about the Davis ECUs or is it just reprogrammed with the original bits still there?

Have you got a NNN50020 or NNN000120 sitting there?

We should be able to test his vehicle if you do.

And... I can get the original sorted for a good price.

I have a spare Defender ECU here if need be (older MSB version)

P.s> French ECU is repaired and due here Monday.
Please PM me with your delivery address.

    Hi Brett,
get them to try the Turbo Valve, its a little elec switch that can fail and will only show a fault but not what it is. I had this problem with my TD5 Disco and Harry at MR Auto found it by a process of elimination cost $62. for the part + Labour half hour to fix.
Hope it is something simple like that
    Cheers

    Lads,

    I have an update.

PLR may have been on the money.

It seems poor and inconsistent voltage may have been the cause. The crankshaft sensor was getting the right info back to the ecu to say the thing was atually cranking over antherfore no putting fule where it should be.

At this stage I have to thank the dealer in Launceston who have investigated this non stop and eventually were given the lead where the problem may be from Landrover Aus.

It was a new one on them as they had never seen it before.

It seems my years of beach work had badly corroded the main termnal wire to the starter motor and the starter motor itself was in the same shape. As a result the sensor was getting the right voltag and therefore playing havoc with the ECU.

This bit of info may be handing for others facing th same prob.

Short cut is I'm picking up the car tomorrow with new wound starter motor plus cables as well as new wiring looms to replace the original.

Yes a few dollars but at least she's going.

    Thanks for the Help.

Justin - I've asked for a written report from Buckby's which you may be interested in for future work.

Great news Brett, Thanks in advance for the report, should be helpful for diagnosis in the future!
As said, beach work and corrosive environments play havoc with electrics; especially since the starters and alternators are poorly sealed and low down on the Td5 engine!
Good to hear it is going again.

Are you saying the starter motor was the cause ?
If so, LR actually released a bulletin a few years ago relating to this issue.
