smoke coming out oil filler @ idle 3.5 v8

    Gday guys

I have a 3.5 in a rangie here atm with a little bit of smoke coming out oil filler at idle and at higher revs it dosent change either at all just a little trail of smoke at all revs only stops on back down ...

Is this a sign that the donk is a bit long in tha tooth or dose it need a oil change with somthing like HPR 50 to help it seal ...

This would be rings causing the smoke am i rite ??????

What other suggestions are there for this problem as it would be good to stop th smoke as it is noticeable in the cab at highway speeds it just stinks no smoke in cab tho ....

Cheers guys any advice would be great

more than likely that will be a bit of blow by or oil burning off behind the rings..

Generally a sign of an older motor but not fatally so..

The fact that its not being drawn through the inlet manifold points to a clogged/crook/missing PVC valve or fitting and probabley a stuffed filler seal.. All resonabley cheap to fix.

Not on a LR - but the last time I saw this was when I had problems with valve stem seals

check the flame traps are clear, wash them out in petrol and the hoses too. the engine is ment to burn the fumes caused by the blowby. they are the pipes comming from the rocker covers to the inlet manifold.

BUT probably just a geriatric, which could do with a rebuild.
Oil filler should suck not blow.

Ok thanks guys it now has a pcv valve on it but still has the smoke comin out the filler and yep the inline pcv valve is on the rite way round ...

Yep the filler should suck air into the engin and the vent tubes in the rocker covers should suck the smoke via the pcv valve but not on this one is strange il try a few other tricks to try sort it ..

    Cheers guys

Lokka, read the recent thread titled: "Oil leak goes bad - uh oh."

    It may be of use.

Yep Quiggers ive read it ..

The motor im toyn with has 2 vent tubes runin off the rocker covers no flame traps into a new inline pcv valve then into the inlet under the carby and it still has a linger of smoke out the oil filler ...

If i run it without the pcv valve it sucks air in through the filler like mad and runs like it has a vacume leak which it dose in this case cause theres no pcv valve for restricsion ...

I think the rings may be seizzed in the groves in the pistons causing the oil to burn or the valve stem seals are roooted
