flame trap, what can I put in it?

You could always go to a wrecker and get one from a wrecked RR or maybe an early Disco, if realy desperate you could buy a Series oil filler cap and open it to extract the wire wool, standard method of cleaning these things was to wash in petrol as specified in the Series w/shop manuals:)

I wish I could find a RR getting wrecked for all those little bits I could salvage. It has two disadvantages 1. Finding one getting wrecked 2. the price people ask for used stuff.
I don't mind paying a fair price for used stuff, around the half price, (maybe more) I think is reasonable but this depends on lots, such as availablity, age, condition, distance etc.
eg I wanted a rim for a spare wheel, wreckers yard (old rusty) $90
Brand new steelie from a shop, $110

I called around I can get a new flametrap for $60 still it's a lot considering all I need is a bit of wire mesh, apparently they only sell the whole unit.

Mine was so gunked up, petrol wouldn't clean it.

A soak in caustic soda did. I also used the same technique on my Hillman Hunter flame traps.

I unroll mine.
Give it a shake and a tap.
Quick rinse in kero.
Roll up and install.

5 mins max.

try stainless fly screen mesh - used it myself in the past, just loosly shoved in there...

In that case you can use the innards out of the breather,either rocker cover or oil filler of a 4 cylinder Series motor ;)

there should be a wrecker in perth with one or somebody one this site might have one that you can strip:)

All sorted with the flametrap another Landy parts specialist, SOR near the Tonkin, (you know the one) gets a stock of them in about a week , $20 each :D:D

I never get sick or saying " It pays to shop around" I just saved about $80+ with three phone calls.
