Help Required.. M & S lights flashing...
Hi Guys...
Just been to pick some oil up and while talking commented on the fact i had had no troubles with my disco..
well got in it.. tried to start it twice both times with nothing happening.. noticed that it wasnt quite in 'P' so shoved it properly into park and it started... went to pull off and noticed it was a bit sluggish.. looked at the dash and lo and behold M & S lights are flashing at me..
i turned the engine off.. maybe for about 5-10 secs back on... stil lthe same....
while driving i dont seem to have first or 4th gear... torque convertor wont lockup either. im pretty sure it starts in second and changes to 3rd.. but then thats it.. i also cannot manually select any gear....
i guess my cry is... HELP!
As always any info very much appreciated..
Thanks
Steve

Steve, you almost solved it yourself. The problem was that it wasn't quite hard in Park and it goes into "Limp Mode" S&M flashing and the auto in 3rd gear. So place it firmly in park, take the key out of the steering column for a minute, then try starting again. All sould be fine.

It will be in fault mode whic locks the transmission in 3rd gear.
Try locking the car up then open & start as usual.
It can be an intermittent problem or it can happen often. Sometimes it's a poor connection.
Under your car, check the A/C drain. It can drain straight onto the inhibitor switch & cause problems.

i think it was me starting it like that scouse.. i dont use the aircon... im still trying to acclimatise myself to the heat.. and im doing it the brutal way
