    Fixed !

ok so this is the run down of what went wrong, the ignition switch which is a rotary switching block on the end of the key / steering lock assembly, moved apart and the ball beating a retaining spring that was there let go, as such i had no resitance on the spring when starting and so if left it would keep turining the starter motor,

    to fix

pulled the column cowell off and undid the small screw that holds the swich against the streering lock etc, dismantled the switch into its 3 major component parts, 1 ( wire mount assembly), 2(rotating switch connector) and 3 (cast bezel)

cleaned the ball bearing and wiper plates on the rotating switch connector, figured out where the return sprint sits and put unit back together - test turn and return with large screwdriver....( i dunno where i learned that )

then crimp metal housing back together with the three tangs,

I have checked the RAVE , my Haynes, and My hardcopy ,manual and none of them say anything about repir / service - even 4x4's in melbourne only sell the item as a complete unit - so i fugure i have just saved myself a hungee or so!

    Thanks, Mick. That's worth knowing.
