Great looking Land Rover, fantastic in the green and chunky tires (Dunlop SP road grippers??). I just dunno about the retro dash though hrmmm, I liked the Series III dash.

Dam makes me want another series Landie again.

I prefer the series 1/2/2a dash rather than the S3. Just don't know how legal a conversion would be. Not that I am worried - I have an S2a!

From a familiarity with ADR's I dont think there would be a problem with instrument location as long as they are clear and present and in working condition. I dont think dash pads were applicable to this year model (early 3) and if it was a worry a padded top section could be easily fabricated.
Yes they were Dunlop X-tra grips and i would give my left one for another set.

I wonder if anyone would ever pick up on it - if they weren't a Landy fan.

Exactly! Most of these sort of things you will get away with provided that you do not do anything to attract attention - and even if you do, how many law enforcement officers are going to realise the difference between a S2 and S3? As long as it is done so that it looks original, I doubt there would ever be a problem, even if it is strictly speaking illegal.

YES - there is an ADR on dash padding, but not sure when it came into force. When did the landcruisers get a padded dash? That was probably when.

AFAIK the instrument ADRs would not be affected, as long as you had a working speedo. There is an ADR requiring a demister as well.

Off topic - I sort of went the other way when I rebuilt my IIA. I made a 2-piece aluminium instrument panel in front of the driver, and moved all the guages and ignition over.

    On the county vent conversion:
Did this last year. You do need a few later model bits ex Defender - the light grey plastic dash backing with the vents in it, the dash tray and the black metal plate that the vent hinges bolt to. This last bit is very similar to the series 3 part but I seem to recall there is a difference in the mounting tabs.............Everything else can come from a Series LR.
Drilling out and repairing the spot weld holes is the worst bit.

Is it worth the hassle - absolutely.

    I've updated the project section.

I have fitted the series bits and pieces.
