I have been using a MD locker for many years now and never had a problem. There are no electrics, just 2 air/vacuum lines, and they are pretty tough. I once had a huge branch wedged in between the rear axle and the locker lines. Didn't do any damage.

Only person I know who ever had a problem was someone who ran the lines too close to the exhaust when installing and managed to melt them (but that was installation error).

I know of a few people who have pulled auto lockers out because they are unhappy with the road manners. Also, if you break an axle, auto lockers often break at the same time.

Thanks Ben, I might reassess my thoughts based on that as I have found out they deffinately dont make one for disco's any more.

    McRover,
www.mailorder4x4.com (british LR parts site) list detroit locker and also the truetrac diff for Disco's. Opposite Lock deal with them. Have seen a thread somewhere on this forum that said he had bought detroit cheaper from another reseller can't remember where though.
Generally recommended in the rear diff for constant 4wd.
Appears everybody has heard of someone who had trouble but, but the couple of people who have installed and posted have been happy (not many and hard to find) except for the clunk.
Good luck with your choice. Would love to know how you go if you do purchase and install as I too are on a limited budget.
