Thanks a lot, for your help, appreciate it.
Just got back from a main dealer friend, he never had anything similar happens to the trucks he sold, and he sold heaps of td5s so this must be a one off thing, hopefully.
Anyone changed trust washers on a td5 with the engine still in the Rover. Most of the bolts you undo on this engine are supposed to be thrown out. Hopefully Land Rover can supply all the bits and pieces needed for the repair. Friend of mine had a similar problem with a current vw td, the answer he got from the parts mop, sorry but you can only buy a complete short block as a exchange unit
love my old TDi,
Richard

So, engine is partly dismantled, some of the parts on this engine look poorly made , compare to what the british did last century. Cracked conrods must be a first for Land Rover, guess this is modern day engineering.
Thrust bearing, the one on the clutch side of the engine, was wearing the crank out so this is not going to be a easy fix, anyone know where to get a crankshaft from.
Disturbing thing is, oil pressure was ok, clutch felt a bit funny, performance as good as ever with a TD5
have a good one
