Torque converters and the ZF 4 speed

Who knows how these things work. Is the lock oup controled by a solenoid and hydrolic? Mine is refusing to lock at the moment.

    Thanks.
I did the stall test today it it passed so now I'm getting confused. Will have to try and find where they hid the ECU over the weekend. She runs fine just the Torque converter won't lock up.

I suggest that you go on to the Outer Limits forum and ask Ashcroft, who AFAIK is the biggest ZF rebuilder in UK.

To my knowledge the ZF uses a solenoid to lock up.

    ZF Lock-up

Hey Ladas it's Turtle here. Well it was as I have just sold it. You should remember me as I was the one who blew a gearbox at the NE Vic meet. I can tell you that the ZF on the 300TDI is definately a hydraulic lock-up converter. I had recently replaced mine. From memory the TD5 is also but I may be wrong. My advice to start with would be to check the fluid level. If you need advice from the guru's of ZF in Melb, call A and B automatics in Dandenong. They will put you on the right track (so to speak).

Turtle, have you sold the Disco? See my PM to you - I was interested in it.

    Ok
I have learnt a bit today. It is the Disco 2 casing and gears with the Disco 1 hydraulic control system. I got the ECU info from the Manuals. This explains why I couldn't find it. Second reading of the fluids showed it was low so I will test it tomorrow. If not then it will be booked in for an assessment. Have also been told it's very unlikely I have done any major damage so maybe just a service
