Well i'll continue on the wise bum road to keep you company!

A balance pipe does not make a twin system sound the same as a single, nor is the cost twice as high for 1" 3/4, nor fall of twice as much.......

But they are heavier.......Your stating facts not opinions.....
    And i'm arguing against

    well in THAT case
the only twin system i had DID fall off,,
    at Chinchilla,
    on a Sunday,
    450 kays from home,

and it cost me a bomb,,

and the shop wouldnt fix it,,
    they said something about
    "torn off???"

so I just joined one side to the other,

I dont remember there being a great change in notes(except in my wallett)

    and I didnt win

bub 1 sounded good, was that a twin, i don't remember.
mine is a standard system with a lukey turbo muffler and the original resonator, it's sounding really good lately, and as for extractors - waste of money on a 3.9, the stock headers are really good, and also, cast iron is an excellent sound deadener. if you go for 'stractors all you will hear is valves banging in the heads.

Geez, you guys get passionate don't you!!
IMHO the muffler is the main determinant of the sound.
My experience is that all Rover V8s with glasspack mufflers have a constant drone, with no individual V8 sound.
And all small muffler V8s drone at 2000-3000RPM ie on the highway.
I think this is to do with firing order and manifold design.

I have had both duals and singles and they all sound "vanilla"

I fitted a Flowmaster muffler to mine, and now have a "V8 throb" at low revs. Flowmaster mufflers are baffled but much less so than stock mufflers and work on reflected sound cancelling.
Originally I had a hot dog resonator but SWMBO objected to the noise and I fitted the largest oval glasspack resonator with a centre void that would fit (about 30CM long).
I reckon its great and I am hard to please.
My son who is a hard core petrol head, always greets me at his place saying geez that thing sounds great.

if it drones at 2-3ooo rpm on the highway, you're not driving fast enough.
my turbo muffler is straight through, so is the land rover resonator, can't get free'er breathing than that. and yes the rover v8 sounds good.
it really is singing when up around 5- 7000 rpm, although i don't know where 7000 is as the tach in a disco stops at 6, but the needle doesn't, and that's an auto allowed to change on its own at full throttle!

I think you have a very ambitious and optimistic tacho.
ZFs change 1-2 at 4800RPM, and other changes at about 56-5800RPM.
The lifters are designed to pump up at about 6000 to prevent engine damage.
Seriously where do you spend most of the time in an auto? At about 1500-2000RPM.
The sound I am referring to is off idle-to slow. At high revs you won't get any real beat, just a constant sound.

Hi Guys, remember me? I started this thread.

Anyway, jobs done now, I put on a Supercat CC HD resonator ending in a single pipe. Must say that it sounds great, turned out too that my exhaust had been sitting higher than it should and was banging against the chassis, making a noise that I had been unable to find for the last few months. Must have been done the last time I went bush bashing.

Anyway, thanks, I've especially enjoyed the posts between PTS and RC, for the record, I went with the single over the twin as the cost was half, that's it, nothing more than that.

Now I'll see whether my economy gets better as I've lost about 50k's to my tank distance over the last couple of months and I seem to be using a gear lower for towing the boat than what I normally do. Knowing my luck it'll be something else, might have to go to a Dyno' mob anyway.
    Thanks again all
