Is a rear diff able to be used in the front

Until you get one with bad contact and its noisy under decelleration due to odd wear from the front:p

But if it was quite in the front, it'll be quite in the rear.....plus standard rover diffs dont last long, so you'll change it soon enough anyhow:D

?? approx 300 000km is not long?? Outlast an IFS Landcruiser front diff :D :D

So if Iswap the diff centres around in my D1 it will reduce the backlash? My friend was a Mechanic and he use to swap CV's from side to side to get more milage out of them.

It won't do anything for backlash (play/slop). Philip wants to avoid setting up backlash by fitting a complete diff centre assy vs just fitting new crown wheel & pinion.
