Air filter cleaning

"If a clean dry compressed air supply is available, a stream of air may be directed against the inside of the element. Pressure must not exceed 100psi and the nizzle kept a reasonable distance from the paper.
Obstinate dirt can be removed by washing the the element in warm (120-140F) solution of water and non-foaming detergent. Rinse clean and dry after washing. Do not dry with compressed air."

IF.....i were to wash a paper filter....i would just shake/tap off the excess water and then fit it damp......

the engine running would dry it quick enough.........


unless they are worried about the paper element falling appart whilst wet.....





for your situation right now......either tap the dirt out....or blow some compressed air from the inside to clean it.......
then refit it......it was running fine till now....and if you didnt check it...it would be running just as fine tomorrow......
so you have nothing to worry about.......when you manage to get a new filter.....then just replace it and forget it.......

Washing paper elements used to be common practice. Donaldson's Duralife shops used to sell a special washing fluid. There is a place at Mackay that washes them for all the mining companies.

Your joking, (I assume?) but I was talking to this bloke with a ford maverick it had foam air cleaners and he said when his wife isn't in the house he throws them in the washing machine.
He says it brings them up a treat.

With the need to service it several times a day in severe conditions, and costing $60-$90 each, any way of reducing the number of new elements is a real advantage. You might have unlimited funds, but not everyone has.

Anyway when we lived bush a few years ago and had the daily dust storms come in (read evil red crap), I was cleaning the paper filters on the family car (non landrover) every couple of days, I used to tap out the dust and vaccum the outer side of the filter, don't know if it was much use but it certainly came up cleaner than before. When I didn't do it the car would go through a heap of fuel so I believe it worked to a certain extent. Saying this though I used to replace them every 5000km's due to the amount of crap in the air.

most local Gov trucks get their filters washed professionally, cant see why it wouldnt work on small ones. you would need to buy a second one though.
