Thread: Air filter cleaning

I have never washed a paper air filter so I assume it must have some type of waterproof coating on it.

If you're concerned about the drying time, just give it a tap on concrete (or similar) to loosen the dirt then give it a blow out. That will remove most of the dirt until you have time to wash it or replace it.

or after you have washed it use compressed air to dry it but not too close or you will just rip the filter

It has instructions on top of it for cleaning by blowing with compressed air then rinsing in water till clean. I've never, ever seen anywhere an instruction by Land Rover or any other manufacturer that you should/could wash a paper element!

Gentle cleaning by tapping/shaking or carefully blowing out with air is an OK temporary fix, until you can replace the element.

Oh, in that case ,who knows......maybe they say machine wash and tumble dry - I don't know, I've never had a Japanese vehicle........but it still sounds strange to me for a paper filter!

Didn't know you could wash the paper ones. I have used the compressed air trick to extend their life before.

mmmmm no mention of a paper element in his post
but if it is paper it does seem very strange and ive never heard of it either

On second thought I should have just put it in the machine with my uniforms. Thanks for your input, I just thought it sounded a bit funny them suggesting this when usually the best option is replacement. Would have taken a while to dry in my opinion when it is 40cm long and 20cm diameter.
