Who's put HID inserts in their Defender?

Yea just had a read of that blokes whinge on HID's Kits. I agree with whoever said he was just having a whinge because he couldn't get a set. He dose have some very valid scientific points but......mate the proof is in the pooding and mine bloody rock.
I did however go out and stand 50m from the front of my car with low beams on, and again no special lens and standard HID replacement globes and it wasn't offensive in any way. I did however notice when I first installed them that the standard halogen settings for alignment were way off, maybe people arn't realigning their headlights after having the conversion.
And as for his whinge about them leveling to the correct hight between beams, I've had no problems so far but I guess only the test of time will tell. Oh and they do have a two year warrenty so if they do bite the dust I'll just send em back. An realalisticly if they last two years with the amount of night driving that I do I'll be pretty happy.
But I'm just one testimonial (spelling:( )

Out of curiosty which did you guys buy?

The article is in relation to the cheap kits. This is why I gave the link and not just "quote" parts to suit. He actually says the more expensive kits are good BUT to get the full benefit of a HID installation the lens needs to be replaced.

This is scientific not justa whinge, different light emitting pattern needs a different lens to focus that light properly.

Have a good look!!!!......they design them in to be "invisible" when not in use!......they usually do a wash cycle when lights are first turned on and when screen washers are 1st used and lights are on.......that's what Mercs do!

I got mine from here, http://www.morepower.com.au/xenon.htm after trying 2 ebay kits I was not happy with. Others may have had better luck than me with the H4 kits from ebay. I am very happy with the 42 watt H1 kit I got from ebay. I do not believe the lenses will need to be replaced if the globe gives the correct focal length. My experience is that with both Hella and those clear inserts you buy from ebay the lenses are perfectly ok.

I bought mine from E-Bay but searched for a while before I was happy that I wasn't buying from a back door mob. A two year warrenty also clinched it.
I still fail to see the reasoning behind the law requiring you to have washers on the front lens's just because you have HID's, and as I posted before I'm open to a referance in the ADR's if you have it. Maybe it's written about something else and someone has misinterpreted it, most fancy cars cars that come out with HID's are pretty well up there in the price range and you would expect something fancy like light wipers for that price.

On the lens issue, I can see the reasoning that's being argued, I'm just not buying it that's all. As I posted I have standard hella lens's and the light is brilliant. But if you buy into that and can afford them then go for it.

I can't find it at the moment but I believe the reference to washers is actually only a "recommendation" so doubt it is even in with the ADR's.

As for fit or don't fit, I think some are getting me wrong, I'm not saying don't do it or do it, (the only reason I came across this info is I was looking at doing it myself)

Again for the last time, he didn't say they will not work but if you read the article (which I had the technical details verified) the issue with cheap ones is the "arc" used to produce the light is not stable enough in the cheap units and even behind a lens designed to work with a HID globe will bleed light which will cause glare to other drivers. This is made worse with a lens that was designed for halogen globes. The dearer HID kits have a much more controlled "arc" (control being the position and shape of the arc) so don't suffer the same way. However to get the best result from the HID globes they also need matched lenses.

If it was as easy as fitting the HID globes there would be a lot more manufacturers releasing them.
