I wasn't questioning the use of it, I was asking what it is. I haven't heard of it before.:)
I don't know what all the fuss is about alledged oil leaks in Rovers. My Rangie weeps from the rear main, dry everywhere else. Pretty good for a 19 year old vehicle, regardless of the country of manufacture. I hope I haven't hexed myself now!
My RAngie only has a leak from the LT95 intermediate shaft O ring, which is pretty minor. And a power steering box sector shaft seal, but a new box will be in soon so I'm not worried ATM. Not bad for 300+ Km and the Isuzu has 450K on it now. Still on its original water pump.....

Every coil-sprung, solid axle 110/90, Range rover, and discovery from 1969 to the present day was made with 3.54:1 ratios (excluding "special models").
Yes, the Sals is almost the same as a D60. Differences are:
Sals uses 12mm ring gear bolts while dana 60 uses 1/2" (rest of sals is metric also).
All Sals have a 2-cross shaft/6 gear diff which is only fitted to HD D60s.
The pinion bearings and pinion spline are slightly different.
An eaton is not a D60/Sals. Cannot use eaton lockers/centres. AFAIK there is no D60 e-locker.
Jacmac in melbourne make upgraded (d-60 size) axles for sals diffs - can switch fron the standard (sals) 1.24" 24 spline to 1.3" 30-spline or 1.5" 35-spline!!!
well if you want usa junk go get a jeeper :p (dana 60)
also why fit a sal,s to a disco you will loose a fair bit of the diff clearence you have now:D
