Help required re light force 170 spots

I am having a little trouble with blowing the fuse on my spotties on my disco 2.
I have Lightforce 170 with the lightforce loom.

Problem: driving home spotties just stopped working.
    Checked fuse. Blown.

I have checked wiring for shorts with no luck using ohm meter. All wiring seems to be ok.
After checking the spotties themselves I found that when one bulb is removed and only one plugged in it does not blow fuse when operating spotty. I tried vise versa again it was ok.
So the fuse does not blow with only one spotty function (left or right)

Could this be a faulty relay?

    Any suggestions?

    Any preferance to relay?

    Thanks.

sounds like the fuse is not high enough amperage.

    G'day DRS

I would suggest that you use seperate fused relays for each of the spot lamps then if there is a faulty one the problem is isolated.
    cheers

That was going to be my suggestion as they may put too much load on a single relay.

What is the fuse rating, what is the wattage of the lights

    Remember

watts divided by the volts = amps

    therefore

    2 x 200 watt lights = 400 watts

    400 watts / 12.5 (nominal voltage) = 32 amps

For passive supplies (lights etc) add 10% to the total amps to get the fuse rating

So if the total of your lights was in fact 32 + 10% = 35.2 so a 35 amp fuse

For active supplies (motors/fridges/winches) add 25% to the total amps to get the fuse rating.

    spotties are 2 x 100w
Fuse that has worked up until now was 15amp.
I also tried a 20amp whcih also blew.

It looks like I should run two relays, one for each. You think that if the supplier supplies a loom for the lights it would be suitable. May be I should send email to lightforce?

    Thanks for all replies.

15 amp fuse would be a tad on the 'light' side (no pun intended) for 200 watts - 16.2 would be the minimum.

However as you have said you have tried a 20 and that blew as well, then the cause should be in the relay.

Relays are also rated in amps - fitting two is good, but shouldn't really be nessesary if the correctly rated relay is fitted.

Relays should be 50% higher rated than the peak load. With lights fortunately the running amps is also the peak load +/-

So your relay must be rated at 25 amps minimum, anything lower the terminal in the relay will heat/burn distort etc.,

What is the rating of the original relay ?

I will look for new relay tomorrow.

Do tyou think I should look for 40 amp?
