If you are going to do the job yourself, I have a jig (based on LR drawings) to fit on a trolley jack for the R380 and transfer case. I used it to do the clutch in my Disco. It made the job very easy. It's yours to borrow if you want it.
I feel for you Inc,,
and you could've had it for $XXXX:p
Since you don't have the reco box yet, how much is just the main shaft and the new intermediate gear?
I imagine you'd need a fair bit of techo help to swap the mainshafts though.
question - can you check this shaft by removing the round plate on the t-case
dont ya hate it when God craps on your lawn, bugger indeed. Hope the landy faries look after you with a cheap reco. Just look ahead to all the trouble free miles in the future.
harry heard the noise and then removed a plate somewhere and saw it was next to totally knackered...i didnt ask which plate... the box in my v8 disco must have been screwed beyond belief cause the box in this fender feels great compared to it, think i have only crunched a gear in it once, which amazes me :P
will talk to them face to face in the morning and will absorb more then...
i wont be doing anything without sleeping on it a couple of nights...unless something out of the ordinary occurs..
I'm no expert but I reckon you can. If you take off the PTO cover and rock the brake drum back and forth I reckon you should be able to see movement between the mainshaft and the intermediate gear. This is as far as I got when investigating mine as I also discovered I had a factory fitted oil feed plate. I should take the gear out for a real inspection though. It does play on my mind.
