    Angry Compressor wiring.

Hello those that know about electrics.
This is probably quite simple to those for whom electricty, even if it's only 12 volts, holds no secrets.
How do I wire an ARB compressor up through a relay with an off/on switch?
I took it out of my other Defender and mislaid the notes I'd made showing what wire went where!!!
    Dumb cluck that I am.
Any hints will be gratefully received as I'm now desperate to get this other Defender running right.
    Thanks in advance.
    Alan.

i normally switch the earth for the pull in windings whenever i wire up anything......

does this make any difference......i really only do this so i have less live wiring running around.....

I doesn't make a lot of odds - but I prefer to switch poss to eliminate problems from stray earth and/or dirty connections causing stray current.

    Compressor wiring.

    Thanks fellas.
I've got it wired up but it doesn't appear to be pumping as fast as it normally does.
No air is coming out and I feel it may not be earthing properly and therefore not running at full power.
Is that possible for a dirty earth to cause a loss of power?

    Alan.
Could be a couple of things, undersized cables, poor relay, dirty / worn contacts on relay, or as you say a bad earth, either at the relay or on the pump itself or a weak battery.

If your battery isn't at fault than an easy test, take two tempory wires (can use jumper cables for this), run them from the battery + and -, then temp connect to the pump - that will tell you. If it still runs slow - the pump might need to be serviced

Or it could be that you have reveresed the cables and it's trying to run backwards.
